Privately bought a car.
It transpires that there is now the need for a new headgasket.
Now the guy mentioned that the little problem it had needing toped up with coolant was because it had been sitting.
He never had that problem before.
it transpires he had knowledge of the problem so he lied.
DO I have comeback or not?

Unfortunately not, sold as seen - although you may try ask for some contribution and he/she may do so out of goodwill - but I am betting they knew, didn't want to pay the couple hundred to sort it, and are now glad to be shot of it. You had the opportunity to give it a bit of a look over and ensure you were happy to hand over the cash for the car.0

Any mention of topping up the coolant level should have set alarm bells ringing.0

Headgasket you're also looking for "mayonnaise" on the underside of the oil filler cap (if it's obviously been cleaned off, i.e. no oily film, that's also a bad sign). Oil will also look a bit like chocolate milkshake instead of black/golden on the dipstick.0 -

In a word ....no.
The moment you noticed the coolant was low, you should have walked away from it.0
