Old CorelDraw, new Windows

I now have my nice new Win7 PC and am gradually getting my software and data loaded onto it.
I can't for the life of me find my CorelDraw CD, though I seem to recall it was 'Select Edition', ie v7, and I get the impression that only current versions of Draw will run on Win7. Is that right?
If so, rather than pay a couple of hundred for the latest edition of something I really don't use very intensively, can anyone recommend any free- or share-ware clones that I can use my old .cdr files in?

If you have Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate, then you could try to run CorelDraw in Windows XP Mode.0

How? No CD!!If you have Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate, then you could try to run CorelDraw in Windows XP Mode.
I've had mixed success with Inkscape
No real pattern to the problems really but the import conversion (Uniconvertor) just fails. Some of the files I've managed to import are intact but some objects and layers seem to get combined. And it doesn't seem to like files with both vectors and bitmaps.
Worth a try though cos it's free0 -
Oh well, just in case he does find then - eventually

"" Select Edition', ie v7 ""
- would have been the early early days of WinXP before even SP1 or even Windows Millenium, Corel 12 is about 5 or 6 years old and it's CorelDRAW Graphics Suite x4 now.
- sorry Biggles even busenbust's excellent idea would be unlikely to work in the x86 let alone the 64bit edition, and that's if you could find all the disks.
- try the Corel forum : http://coreldraw.com/forums/
- if you have a stack of cash Full £386.58 Upgrade £175.08 if you order and pay before Monday
- hope you find a workaround !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I haven't given up on finding the CD but XP Mode looks like a lot of fiddling, so might not bother to look any further.
Inkscape was one I had seen, I think Creative Docs was another. But if Inkscape can't import my .cdr files, that might not be good.
Thanks for the input.0 -
I have the very same CorelDraw Select Edition running on an XP machine and the exe files are dated 1998!! Seems like yesterday

If I can dig out the CD (just a single CD for the entire suite I recall) I'll try an install on W7 (32) and let you know.0 -

Seems to have installed okay on W7 (32bit x86).
One issue with continuous help prompts from Windows but disabled that and all seems fine
