Hi all, we are soon going to have 2 apartments abroad which we will be renting and i am basically after advice on where people advertise, which companies to avoid etc

We have a company that we purchased the properties with who will do the advertising etc, but i want to do more to increase the rental potential.

Anyone else on here that rents apartments out could advice?

btw i will soon have my own website and will create groups on facebook, twitter - basically anywhere free :)

Thanks for any advice

Deef

You do not say which country or if these will be holiday lets. If they are try the local tourist board or if in France Gites de France. Next decide on your market, local or Brits? If local ask locally, if Brits do a google search for properties to let in the area, then google complaints for the companies who come up. Most on-line companies do very little beyond putting your add on their site. Try to set up a reliable way for people to book and pay on-line immediately, this increases sales considerably.
Don't forget you will be liable for tax in the country where the flats are even if you never go there.
  • Holiday lets.

I tried the free websites, not a thing from them in 3 years.

My advice would be some thing like holidayrentals.com and a good selection of local agents. Holiday rentals and the other big sites charge in the region of £150 PA but it is money well spent.
The rest of my own bookings come from repeat business and recommendations. ( At least 60% now, and doesn't cost anything )

Own leaflets, website etc are a waste of time IMHO.

Make sure you have a decent set of photo's for each apartment that you can email out to enquiries and that you do your research into the local market for fair rentals and what holiday will expect.

    good luck.

    Thanks for the advice!

The apartments are in Cyprus and are for holiday lets!

Colin, how much business do you get from holidayrentals.com? and is it easy to set up meet and greets at the airport, can you arrange this yourself, as i know peopel who like this service which makes it easier for them.

    Thanks again

Apologies in advance because I am going to come over as a right know-it-all :o but you are not going to be renting the flats you will be letting them. The reason I am picking you up on that is that potential clients will be Googling or searching on Facebook and you want hits!

Mine are Tenerife, so perhaps a little different.

If you are based there yourself, then pretty easy to do meet and greets at the airport ( be warned, the local taxi drivers will get to know you and won't like it )

If you want to PM me with any questions, then I will be happy to help.
As there is certain info that I am not keen on posting on a public forum.
