Balance Transfer refused

in Credit cards
I have £3,700 outstanding on a B & Q Homeplan card issued by GE Money which is about to come to the end of its interest-free period. I have acquired a GE Money credit card and balance transferred £2,400 (up to my limit on the new card) . I have now got a NSPCC card issued by Bank Of Scotland and have tried to BT the remaining £1,300 debt to this card. B & Q have refused to allow the balance transfer telling me that they only allow BTs to other GE cards. They would allow me to PAY the debt off using the NSPCC card but this would count as a purchase and I would loose the 0% of the BT. Any experiences of this sort of thing or comments or suggestions.

If you want to transfer a balance from A to B you don't need A's consent. However, usually credit cards (B) transfer balances from other credit cards and don't make BTs from store cards (A).Stroudley_terrier wrote:...I have now got a NSPCC card issued by Bank Of Scotland and have tried to BT the remaining £1,300 debt to this card. If B&Q allow you to pay the debt using the CC, check again T&C of the credit card. AFAIK all BOS charity cards have the same 9 months 0% on both BTs and purchases.0 -
Who issues GE Money cards? Would it be Bank of Scotland? If so they have refused because card companies will not do balance transfers from the same 'stable' as it were.
If not then I have no idea.0 -
I also have a B&Q Homeplan account that is about to come to the end of the 0% period. I have tried transferring the balance, but several credit card companies have stated that they are unable to transfer the balance from that type of Storecard.
However, the Marbles card operates it's balance transfers via credit card cheque - there is a fee - but it has a £50 cap, and apply via Quidco to get £20 cashback to reduce this further. 0% for 9 months on BTs via credit card cheque at the mo. As far as the B&Q storecard is concerned, they are getting the balance paid for by cheque so it is of none of their concern.0 -
I have been told this by the Customer Service rep (in Bombay?) and also by a UK based senior Customer Service person (= Policy!)Al_Mac wrote:Doesn't sound legal to me. Object.0 -
I'm no lawyer but I cannot see anything in the Ts and Cs taht refers to this matter.grumbler wrote:If you want to transfer a balance from A to B you don't need A's consent. However, usually credit cards (B) transfer balances from other credit cards and don't make BTs from store cards (A).

GE Money Cards are issued by General Electric Capital Corporation. I do not believe they are associated with BOS0 -

Good suggestion but I would then have an unused NSPCC card (always assuming Marbles would approve me) I think I'll use the NSPCC card to BT to my normal spending card and use the released funds to pay off my Homeplan card.0
