Not sure it's worth worrying about - I suspect you don't have the exact model you think you have. Fords tend to come in all sorts of subtle variations.

I wouldn't trust the denizens of Kwik Fit to sit the right way on a lavatory.

Ring up your local Ford dealer and ask them.
• It's the VIN number that should be used to identify the required replacement parts for a car, not the registration number. Phone or visit your local Ford main dealer, given them the VIN number and ask them to check whether it should have disc or drum brake at the rear.

I dont see what the problem is here. Vehicle databases are often incorrect and the only way to confirm if to ring ford directly.
The lifespan of brakes varies on the amount of miles, type of roads and how heavy the brakes are used.

Brakes last until you put it on a kwik fit ramp, then they all need changing, along with those scored disks. The shocks are leaking too.

40,000 motorway miles put nothing on brakes compared to 40,000 around town miles. It is impossible to give a mileage figure for brake wear.

No-one would replace discs with drums - they are cheaper to buy in the first place but not by much, and it's be a big job to change them...
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

Yep, know of someone who caught a Kwik fit employee intentionally having a good gouge at their disks.

How long is it since the brake fluid was renewed? Should be done every 2 years, if it's never been done on a 51 plater then now's the time for sure :)

And make sure you know what you're doing putting the rear drums on in terms of adjusting the bearings, people have died because they got it wrong and their wheels fell off.

the ford focus faq says (just cut and paste the relevant bit).

Wheels, Tires & Brakes
NOTE: Most of this FAQ is base on 2000-2004 Zetec & SPI Model Focus'.

Q.Does EBC Brakes make a shoe for my rear drum brakes?

Why would there be a question asking about drum brakes if they don't have them :)
