switching suppliers
Options
I decided to switch from Npower to OVO last November through a switch site (not Uswitch). I was contacted by Npower and offered a better deal and they said they would deal with OVO for me. OVO then said I had to pay £60 to get out so I had no choice but to stay. As soon as this contract is up I intend to move away from OVO I think they have been very underhanded. If they didn't already have £80 of my money I'd tell them where to go. Up to now I think Npower have been reasonable.

Why do you think OVO have been "very underhanded"?
Many suppliers offer tariffs that have early exit fees, and Ovo is no different in this respect.7.1. If you have chosen a fixed rate or capped tariff, we will buy enough gas and or electricity for you in advance. You may be asked to pay a cancellation fee if you end this agreement before the fixed rate period ends. This fee is currently £30 per fuel. If we supply your gas and electricity and you want to end the agreement early, the cancellation fee will be £60."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
How much did you lose when you switched from nPower to OVO?0

Npower didn't charge me anything and now there is a battle going on between them I wished I had never bothered0

All the switching site have details of the relevent cancelation fees with suppliers, OVO is no exception to this rule, did you not read the small print when you signed up?
Also, why do you think its OVO that been underhanded over this? Npower arent exactly angels as you will read in other threads, and do you not find it funny how they only offer you a better deal when you switch away from them? Surely thats underhanded too?Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Maybe in future if you have no problems with the supplier it might be a good idea to pick up the phone, explain your reasons for needing to switch and give them the chance to make the offer before the switch not after.0
