Replacement item faulty but just outside warranty

Hi,
I purchased a steamer from Argos in late December 2008.
The unit went faulty and was replaced in August 2009.
The replacement unit has now gone faulty in Feb 2010 just two months out of the warranty.
I have had two of these now, neither has lasted more than six months.
What can I do? And what am I legally entitled to?
Tried searching on here but didn't find an answer.
Thanks

If the first item was completely replaced then shouldn't it have its own 1 year warranty?
Warranty schmarranty. SoGA states that things should last a reasonable time. Six months is not enough. Ask Argos to completely refund you and buy a different steamer from somewhere else."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

No, if an item is replaced under warranty, the warranty just continues as per the original purchase, otherwise you could have replacements forever.
You are correct re SoGA, and the OP should go back to Argos and argue their case.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Thanks for your help.
Argos have agreed to take the faulty item back and as it is obsolete they are giving me a refund.
It was bad design on Tefal's part. Plastics that crack in heat were used on a steamer...think they might have thought of that one before they made them :-)0 -

Depends on how the store works replacements. Given that there's no requirement to provide a warranty, a replacement could have 4 days or something stupid.
A lot of retailers will just process a replacement as a refund and resale of an item, thus generating a new sale, which has it's own new warranty. There are some unscrupulous types who do take advantage, but I'm sure we wouldn't do that here.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Whilst I agree with what you are saying, it is a completely different scenario, if you use the warranty my point stands, if you use your example it is a refund then a new purchase, therefore obviously a new warranty.
In the OPs case your example doesn't work, and as I was replying to #2 who was replying to the OP, my point still stands.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0
