'Are annoying ads really bad – would you go compare with GoCompare?' blog discussion

What about the reverse? Where you like the ad but can't remember what the product is! There's currently one with someone on a roller-coaster track that weaves around tall buildings, background music is 'More Than A Feeling' by Boston (great oldie!) However I've no idea what the ad's for! I might buy some if it's cheap!!

I can't help them then - I've got a 'cashback' Barclaycard already0 -

That ad (and it's predecessor) irritate me for another reason - yes so you can wave your card at the reader to pay ... but you still have to wait for the teller to add up your shopping and whatnot - you certainly can't grab a bunch of bananas as you fly past and wave your card and have it deduct anything meaningful from your account.
I gather that even the Oyster cards, which use a similar technology, deduct the maximum fare as you check in, and only adjust it at the end of the journey when they finally know how far you have travelled.0 -

Yes but the music's good!!0 -
The meerkat was the first site that I went to to compare my house insurance.
I hate that fake opera singer; the ad is just too "in your face".
Ended back with Over 50's Castle Insurance who reduced my premium; far lower than any of the comparison sites.0 -
As I posted even before this thread was started, I'd rather pay extra £50 than just visit Gocompare, let alone buy something through them.
Boycott gocompare!?0 -
I would not use these because of their annoying adverts:
. Go Compare
. Confused.com
. WeBuyAnyCar.com (my friend did a quote for my car - only £220, when my car is worth £1100)
. Any of those postal gold companies
. Moonpig
Plus I didn't buy any Cadbury when the bouncing eyebrows ad was on."The reason we're successful, darling? My overall charisma, of course." -- Freddie Mercury

I also boycott the really annoying ads.
I wouldn't use GoCompare and would never ring 118 118 (while I'd happily ring 118 24 7 because I think the ad's great)

Unfortunately the fact that we are discussing it here means it has worked. Personally I have my own list of companies that I won't use, based on my hatred of their ads.
The best solution is to watch programmes on dtr or vcr and fast forward through the ads.0 -
I make a point of not buying anything where the merest sight of it on the supermarket shelves brings back the memory of an appalling advert.
Unfortunately my pet hate ad at the moment is something I couldnt afford to buy anyway, but has anyone else thought how pointless and stupid the Ford Fiesta campaign is? So theres a bunch of boxes which join together and then theres a car which drives really slowly around a street corner. !!!!!! is it trying to tell me?
On the other hand, LOVE the meerkats. Simples!0
