I had a 3 website addresses through 1&1. I was sure i had cancelled all 3. I've received a letter from their debt collection agency saying to pay them £11.88 straight away.
I was shocked to receive such a letter as i always make sure i pay what i owe so after logging back into 1&1 to investigate it appears that my card expired at the end of October 09 so they couldn't take payment (even though i was sure i had cancelled)
This is the information i've got from the invoices bit:
21.05.2009-21.05.2011 website 1 paid
26.04.2009-26.04.2011 website 2 paid
04.10.2009-04.10.2011 website 3 card declined payment (owe £6.88)
I can't find anywhere on 1&1 that i still have any websites with them.
Should I just pay the debt collector as its only £11.88 to save the hassle or should i take it up with 1&1. I really don't want any big burly men turning up on my door :-s

You're a long way off anyone turning up for £12

Contact 1&1 and ask them to check correspondence from you regarding the cancellations. I had similar with another company, and they refunded me immediately I called them.
I hope you have kept all documents you sent and received for the cancellations? Could be hard to prove they were cancelled otherwise.
As for the debt, 1&1 might accept the £6.88. It all depends on whether or not the collection agency are simply acting for 1&1 or if the debt has been assigned. If the latter, then you need to deal with the collection agency.
As you appear to have 3 sites registered I would ask for details of the sites, and specifically why they don't show in your 1&1 account.
This just confirms what I thought of this crowd!0 -
I certanily wished i'd looked into the company before going with them.. i've read a lot of bad things about them.
I'll give them a call and hopefully get somewhere!0 -
1&1 are terrible hosts and probably one of the worst in the business.
They are well known for sending out the letters from the debt collection agency and it always seems that they never receive the cancellation.
I bet when you sent the cancellation online that you did not receive any proof by email?
They normally send out a few letters from the debt collection agency, then a few letters from their solicitors (who strangely enough are in the same building as the debt collection agency).
Just do a google for 1&1 problems and you will see how bad they are!0 -

yes you're right :-s
But presumably if they didn't receive the cancellation, the sites are still up and operational? There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

nope none of them work now so they must have been cancelled0

Then they can't have it both ways. Isn't the fact that they are cancelled reasonable proof that they got your cancellation? There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
