Thanks Jimbo, can't thank you enough for the heads up.

well i got out of bed early, turned up at my local Lidl waited, and walked (didnt run) in when they opened the doors..

me and........ the other 2 people!

one which ran straight to the bananas :j and the other who looked like he was about to nick some 11p bottles of lemonade!

Had a quick walk around, couldnt see them, so asked and the chap said they were locked away out the back, he asked how many i wanted, i said 2 and he came straight out with them.

Nobody else seen for miles after one, so if you want a Lidl bargain, you need to go early! rule of thumb.

They really are very nice, very light, come with a leatherette pouch and i copied 4.3gb to it within 2 minutes.

    Regards

Try comet. They are doing 10% off hard drives with code 10HD and some have free delivery

    http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/search.do?n=0&searchTerm=hard+drives

Theres a 500gb drive that comes to £40.49 with the discount

Just enter the code on the basket page before reserving or chosing delivery slot

Unfortunately they're 3.5" drives, so will require an ac adapter.

I don't think much to external 3.5" drives..... best thing to do with them is to get rid of their caddy & mount them inside your PC :o
(that's what I did with the 3.5" 500gb external seagate drives that Sainsburys were clearing for £20 :rotfl:)

The op's deal is fairly good; doesn't beat the 2.5" Freecom 400gb drives that PCWorld had on clearance @ £39.97 some time last year - but it's not far off.
  • shame that the one comet is offering is not compatibale with mac machines :( gutted
"MSE Money saving challenges..8/12/13 3,500 saved so far :j" p.s if i been helpfully please leave me a thank you but seek official advice at all times from a pro

Whaddya mean not compatible with a Mac?
If your Mac has USB2, then what's more to say?
  • I managed to get one of these today from the Rock Ferry store - I think they only had three!

I wanted it for storing movies and playing them with the USB port on my DVD player, so needed to reformat it FAT32 - easy and quick with freeware program FAT32FORMAT.EXE, needed because Windows won't allow you to use FAT32 on partitions bigger than 32GB.

    ;)
  • A good price as too build one yourself would cost £45 ishy.

Only downfall is it not having a eSATA connection.

eSATA will be the future, as its ment to be a 1.5Gb/s transfer rate, far far faster than USB 2.0 if you have the connections available.
