Advice please!!!

Hi all...have been to the CAB about my debt problem after being with DMP for 6/7 months. In that time I have been paying on time, the right amount of money every single month, yet I have now got two CCJ's and a charging order!!! I have now decided to get rid of the DMP and go it alone with the help of you guys and the CAB.
My question is because some of my debts go back to Nov 04 and have now been took over by various different agencies, who do I right to to find out the interest rates so I can snowball??? Will it be the creidtor or the DRA they have employed??
I have been concentrating on getting my bank charges back which will clear of some of my debts!!! But its now time to get my finances completely in order!!! Its starting to affect the family now and thats not good.
I will post a copy of my soa later so you can see where I can cut back some more. Although it'll change next week as I've just been offered a job!!!
We're on the up!!!

Look forward to seeing your SOA. Well done on getting the job! Who is presently managing the DMP for you?

Hello, I had the same problem with Baines & Earnst. I was paying them on 16th every month & they weren't sending on the payment until between 2 & 3 weeks later. When I went by myself I contacted all the DCAs that were dealing with my accounts & set up standing orders with them, also offering a slightly higher payment form the money I saved by cancelling my DMP with B&E. The only one I dealt directly with were MBNA. I don't know why, but I did not get the bullying tactics that many have reported on other posts, perhaps I was just lucky. Personally, I found that dealing with the DCAs was easier than dealing with the original companies - Lloyds TSB, Lombard, Aktiv Kapital & Citibank. If you find it too much to go it alone, please don't pay another penny of your money to fee charging DMCs. Instead contact either CCCS, Payplan or CAB. Most people here regard these quite highly.

Great advice from Donedoingdebt. Please don't pay another penny towards any fee charging debt management companies. Call either CCCS, Payplan or the CAB.

Donedoingdebt - how did you terminate the contract with Baines & Earnst? Just out of interest really...

Hello Annie. I waited until their specified minimum one year of contract had passed, then simply wrote them a letter outlining my complaints & giving them one months notice of termination. They didn't give me any problems at all. The only downside was that they kept my first monthly payment of £350 instead of paying it to my creditors, but I was prepared for this as it was in the original T&Cs. Yes, £350 is a lot of money but it was worth it in the long run to get away from them & the £62 per month management fee was then put towards my debts. That was in May 2001 so you can see that I've saved myself many times the £350.

You should be able to cut down your food shopping by a fair few quid with some meal planning - check out the Old Style Board on here for some great ideas. I'm sure you could easily cut that by £100 or more.

Keep a spending diary to see where the cash is going - what can you cut back on etc.

Fuel costs look a bit high - I guess you use the car a lot - is there anyway to rely on public transport for you/your OH.

Do you have any family that could help you out with child care to reduce these costs? Even as a temporary measure as I see some of your priority debts will be cleared by the end of the year which should clear off the deficit each month.

    gerturdeanna -

Do you work gerturdeanna? It's just I saw a fee for childcare but bearing in mind there is Incapacity Benefit thrown in there for good measure?!

How many are you feeding on £350 a month?

You raise some interesting questions regarding interest ratess - can anyone help?
