Thanks CHR15 have ordered the above just wanted to make sure i was getting the right cables, Thanks
  • I had a new laptop with no HDMI connection but had a VGA connection running on windows vista system.
I also have a new HD TV with HDMI and VGA connections.
I bought a good quailty VGA to VGA cable thinking I would get a good picture when both were connected.

My TV did not tune to my laptop and I lost my laptop Screen resolution settings completely. Fortunately I had a friend who was a lot more Tech savvie than me who fixed my laptop settings for me.

I did the same thing again only using my Desktop PC running on Windows XP. My TV Tuned in/adjusted straight away no problem.
I haven't had the confidence since to try and connect the laptop and just use the Desktop.
Things not always as straight forward as they may appear!
I think HDMI to HDMI would work best with no problem.

The chances are that when you connect the HDMI end of the lead to the TV it will not accept the sound feed via the audio lead. You will get an excellent picture but no sound because it expects the sound to come through the HDMI source.

Sorry but it happened to me last week.

If I knew what TV model you have I could look up the spec and suggest another way.

Hi the tv is a Lg this one http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/QUOTE]

Problem is you only have VGA (analogue) out on the laptop, whereas the TV is digital. As Geordie458 said HDMI to HDMI (digital picture and sound) would be ideal.

You say you ordered a VGA to HDMI cable as Chr15 suggested, with a 2 RCA phono. Give it a try and hope it works. I think you will get picture but no sound. Maybe you can live with that.

If it doesn't, then VGA to VGA as Adam said for the picture, plus the 2RCA for the sound is about it. The PC connector on the TV is analogue picture only and as such is expecting to receive sound through the audio inputs. VGA is the cable we used to use to connect a tower PC to a CRT monitor. You probably have one around from an old PC

You will have to spend some time in your laptop video adapter control panel to get the correct resolution for the TV. Check the TV manual for advice.
