So there's three of the big banks who allow just one person to close a joint account, how many more do you want?0 -

Just to take it a step further, The account IS in dispute and has been frozen since sept 09 so im protected, but this seems to have trapped me.
I went into Halifax bank this week and they didnt seem sure, so the assistant, went to speak to management who said, it will need both signatures to take it out of dispute
Also to remove a name will take both signatures
and also to close it will take both signatures.
That said im interested in the t's and c's posted here that state it can be closed by either signatory since my wife (soon to be ex) is planning to leave the country which will make getting a signature harder than ever. if thats possible!.
I shall right directly to Head office and refer them to their own terms and conditions and issue a summons on them for breach of contract if they refuse.
Also i shall write to the credit ref agencies asking to dissassociate me, however, is this possible if there is a joint account in existance?
The associatiopn is definately affecting my credit worthiness since she has unpaid credit debts in her sole name but we are associated via the halifax joint.
Thanks so much. Any further comments very much appreciated.

Just to stoke the flames a bit even Halifax contradict their Ts&C's:
http://www.halifax.co.uk/bankaccounts/closingyouraccount.aspPlease don't forget to sign the form, without your signature we can't carry out your request. For joint accounts, you both need to sign.0 -

Why do ppl bother with joint accounts? It only leads to hassle and trouble.

Hi folks.I read the t's and c's and it does say either can APPLY to close the account. I guess they will say, well you can apply, but to actually close it we need both although that ISNT part of the agreement i signed up for.Anyway, i sent a rather condescending letter to them,
a) close the account as per t's' and c's clause 23.
b) If you refuse to adhere to your own agreement, i wish to make the account BOTH to sign. this pulls in another clause whereby THEY close the account and offer two seperate accounts to each account holder.
c) If you refuse to adher to that part of your agreement, then i hereby submit notice to terminate our agreement according to clause 28 in your own t's and c's.I enclosed my cut up card and the printed out T's and C's.
I am gob smacked their website says both must sign whereas the T's and C's dont say that. Hence i also told them if they refuse ANY of my three options i will take them to court to close the account for breach of contract. That will be fun.
In retrospect, joint accounts are a pain. however, i needed this one to support my wife overseas. it was useful, but now she hates my guts since getting married, its not so useful. hmmm.
Thanks folks, i shall post an update0 -
