Tojan Virus - Programs deleted

PC has become affected by a Trojan virus through the net. MacAfee detected something and ran a full scan which did not bring anything up however later Vista came up with warning message and MacAfee results had one virus quarantined but Vista said a Trojan was being detected.

When Vista Windows update came up later my wife pressed to accept but after a period of non-activity, the PC can boot up ok but mouse is not detected and when you through the keyboard you try and launch any shortcut it come up with name of a exe.file and cannot find the application as though its been deleted such as Office/MacAfee/IT tunes, etc, also browser/internet/outlook not working, I guess since files have been deleted. Document files seem to be there just programs missing.

Before engaging a technician, is there anything I can do myself in this situation and in any particular order?

Reboot and keep pressing F8 to get into SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM FULL SCAN then click SCAN
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds

    reboot

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

Any problems with either program RIGHT click the exe file and RENAME it first (Something random fh394htherg.exe)

Still problems then bring up TASK MANAGER and try to determine what the nasty is and stop it from running

Other option is to remove mcafee as it can be a nightmare to use once a machines infected

Thanks, I will try that when I am at home.

However, in safe mode will PC be able gain to access the net and download this software if all files/programs have been deleted?
