Thanks for your replies.
I also recently received a cold call from Claims Recovery Service, they told me I was owed £2400 from PPI I had on a paid off mortgage with Alliance & Leicester.
The chap on the phone was very confident to the point that he told me a would definitely get the £2400 if I signed the paperwork he intends to send me and paid a refundable £199.
I questioned him a couple of times about it but he continued to tell me I would definitely get the money. I also asked him how he got my details and the details of the mortgage, he told me he had been handed them by the financial ombudsman who had asked "Claims Recovery Service" to make people aware of the PPI situation and help them deal with claims.
I am sceptical !!!!!!

Just another dodgy claims company cold calling you making false claims in an attempt to get money off you.Claims Recovery Service---Who are they
And what reason did they say you were mis-sold?they told me I was owed £2400 from PPI I had on a paid off mortgage with Alliance & Leicester.
Really? In which case, why dont they take their fee out of the redress and not up front?he continued to tell me I would definitely get the money.
That is a blatant lie. The FOS has no affiliation to any claims company and if it had passed details then it would be a breach of the data protection act. Also, the FOS only gets to see details about on you on complaints you have made and asked to be referred to the FOS. If the FOS already have the details then you wouldnt need a claims company.. I also asked him how he got my details and the details of the mortgage, he told me he had been handed them by the financial ombudsman who had asked "Claims Recovery Service" to make people aware of the PPI situation and help them deal with claims.
In reality, they have either come into the data illegally (ex staff bringing client records with them is not uncommon) or they are phoning up on the off chance that you will have some form of PPI and they can turn the conversation round to that.
The really dodgy claims companies are known to make out that they are linked to the OFT, Government, MoJ etc when there is no company that is. The MoJ have even posted information on their website about this calling them scams.
You should report this company to the MoJ for making such claims.
Also, if you were paying the MPPI monthly by direct debit and were eligible for it then you have virtually no chance of getting a refund as that is how it should be done. Its only the single premium MPPIs or where you are not eligible that you stand a good chance of success on.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
