If it states cubic feet, you do have an Imperial meter and 222 Imperial gas units are approx 7,000kWh

I note from the gas statement that there are 2 estimated meter readings and one you supplied(on 28/1) Although I cannot see where you get 222 units from these figures.

Are you sure you have read the dial meter correctly? Don't forget the meter go clockwise and anti clockwise and it is easy to be one hundred units out!

When I left EBICO to goto First Utility the reading was 44 units, on 28 Jan I gave them a reading of 250, so far thats 206 units used (250-44)
On 31 Jan my bill is finally produced and they estimate I would use 16 units from the last reading on the 28 Jan, making total units 266.

    So 266 units - 44 units (from take over) = 222 units

Cardew, I am reading it correctly, note the reading is numbers only and the clock face dial, I was on about, there is only one of them on the far right, not sure if its for pressure or something.

(I don't understand the thread title - 'already saved'? In what circumstances would you have not started saving immediately?)

Up until Dec 2009 my bill was quartely with EBICO, it is now monthly with First Utility. So Yes immediately I had my monthly bill from First Utility, I saved; as if I was still EBICO I would have been paying more for the same useage.

I still don't understand. Why would you switch to a tariff that would be more expensive? You start to save the day the switchover goes through. Where does the 'already' come in to play?

Kim Yeovil, going off present bill First Utility gas tariff is 2.836p per kWh + 5% VAT and EBICO web site EquiGas costs 3.5p per kWh + VAT

    So theres my saving.

Also First Utility Dual Discount is applied in October bill until then the total is accumlating each month, so again theres another saving.

Look at my bill above in other posts, £221.76 for using 6995.935kwh of gas with First Utility, goto EBICO site and enter 6995.935kwh for gas useage and see the output.

I am trying other Utility companys for 6995.935kwh monthly gas useage and seeing if I can beat it, however! remembering October, First utility applies its final dual discount total.
  • just looked at first utility's tariff and i see there is a quite high standing charge

Yes there is a standing charge and I notice some suppliers don't do standing charge.

All I know my bill for Jan 2010 gas useage is cheaper than if I stayed with my old supplier.

However £221.76/month for gas is not what I call cheap and am now trying to find out why the heavy useage.
