Need an external enclosure for my 3.5" hard drive. Best i've found so far is for £19 for a sumvision on from ebuyer. Anyone know of any deals? or any that are instore because without deliver it was only £14.25.

Also please note i do need:
USB 2.0 and E-SATA.

Ideally i do not want to be waiting around and picking it up from a shop would be ideal.

edit: SATA II drive.

Thanks!

  • Is this for a SATA hard drive or an older PATA hard drive?
  • I've just brought a non enclosure adaptor off of eBay, was less than a tenner :D with free delivery. Will post back here if I remember lol, whether it arrives or is any good.

The one I ordered is for a 3.5 IDE HDD, but think it has the E-SATA adaptor too.
  • Be careful to buy an enclosure with adequate cooling. A metal one is probably ok, but I bought a couple of cheap plastic ones on eBay in the past and the drives stopped working soon after I started using them in the enclosures (even though they worked fine before that) - I have since heard that this is due to over-heating.

The ebay ones can be downright carp.
I got one from hong kong once - the power cable was shredding and internal live wiring was coming out at the point its meant to plug into the enclosure.

The adapter was some joke piece of plastic - again power cable shredding.

I should have reported it to trading standards.
The enclosure itself was some cheap aluminium akin to a tin of beans.
Chucked it in the bin in the end.

If you want a decent enclosure and value your life, buy a well known branded one from a well known UK online retailer or high street store.
