I am now with npower, and have been for about 15 months. when I switched they reckoned I needed to pay £35 per month. After about five months I phoned to ask them to put my direct debit up to £80 per month. This they done for about 3 months, then sent me a letter saying it's going up to £107 per month, and have been paying this up till now. Going by my bills I still owe £200. Now I want to change to Atlantic. I realise they will take what they are owed. But, can they stop me changing until the arrears are cleared, that would mean being with them another few months if they won't.
And I want to go as quick as I can.
Thanks.

Yes they can stop you changing if you haven't cleared arrears.
If they couldn't stop customers switching, some would move from company to company leaving a trail of debts.0 -
I think you can change when your arrears drop below £1000

Thanks all.
So I can.t change until the arrears are cleared, and the way they set it out in their review is that it will be cleared in about 4 months.
I was hoping to leave, and they could take the amount they are owed.0 -

Can you pay them what you owe and then you can leave straight away?MFW 2025 #50: £1139.75/£600007/03/25: Mortgage: £67,000.00

Yes , that is what I would like them to do take the amount I owe, I think I will phone and enquire. Thing is, the longer I am into another year with them then switching can be a false economy, owing to the discount they give for a complete year.0

You can reduce your debt at any time by making a one off payment to the account-why would they not let you do that?No free lunch, and no free laptop0
