Most likely cause will be dirt lodged inside the cisterns ballvalve, another cause could be an airlock within the pipework and are you entirely sure the isolated shower piping doesn't have a tee of to the WC?Norn Iron Club member No 3530

Has the cistern cold feed got one of these on it?
make sure the slot of the valve is turned so that it is parallel to the pipe and the valve is open. If its at right angles as in the pic the valve is closed and no water will flow.
I suspect plumber who removed shower unit has left it isolated. If you can't find it - just get him back.

does the water flow into the cistern at all
is the cistern filling to near the overflow or just over halfway0 -
If it flushes when filled with a bucket then the syphon mechanism is ok. Then it can only be the filling mechanism. If there is definitely water getting to the float valve, it is likely that the float valve has jammed in the shut position. But first you have to make sure that the valve is getting a water supply, as has already been suggested.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
afaik the toilet is on another spur, off the main plumbing pipes aroud the bathroom.. unless engineer turned off another iso valve i havent seen yet..
no breakages / obstructionsm that i can see in the cistern itself.. ballcock moves up/down no problem. no water comes in at all when i do a manual topup and flush..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

just catching up on some posts- thanks to all. plumber sorted quite quick- there was a valve inside the cistern, where the ballcock arm goes into (and water feed through).
replaced and flowing freely, as it were!Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
