We have this running on daughters laptop. I have just started up the laptop and its saying her system is unsecured and it willo not let me re-start the programme. I have restarted the laptop as well just to see and its still unsecured.
Will I have to take this off and re-instal it again? because its just unresponsive or may there be something else I could try? Many thanks

When you hover your mouse over the Avast icon in the notification are (bottom right) and right-click, can you Update the program and virus definitions?0

Hi, thak for replying.
No it won`t let me do anything, message is `failed to update. The avast service is not running` it just won`t respond to any buttons I click to try and update or get it back on.0 -
In that case, the easiest solution is to uninstall it, restart the computer, and then install the latest version from the Avast website. Did this ever work before or you have only just installed it for the first time?
If it has been on the computer for a while, it is probably an older version - they released the new version 5 recently and so that will hopefully work better.0 -
Fair enough, can you then do a fresh reinstall? I suppose you could try restarting the Avast service but strange why it would suddenly stop (unless disabled by a virus/malware infection).0

You could also try: Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Avast! > Remove > Repair.0
-
...or try the Repair option first maybe.0

I don't know if it will help, but maybe starting in safe mode will allow the program to run, in which case you should do a full scan.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

Thanks, it didn`t work so I have just uninstalled it and am going to put it on again (last time I did this it took ages...) its been on the laptop a few months.
Fingers crossed it works.0 -
Its installed and I`m running a quick scan. thanks again for your help.0

A full scan might be a good idea in case a virus caused the problem.0
