Any one know about sump tanks

Options
Had car serviced with my mechanic Its a 2001 1.1 Clio. We have had it just over a year. Its the 1st service since we have had it.

When I picked it up mechanic said he replaced the washer in the sump plug, he thought that it had been put on too tight at some point causing the damage.

Noticed 2 days later that was leaking oil. Took it back, he found that there was a split in the sump tank. Tried patching it up but it hasn't stopped it totally, still leaking. Said that I need a new one as the split goes right down to the sump plug and thats where its leaking. He is going to giv me a price when he brings the car back later...... anyone know how much I could have to pay......?

Its so fustrating we have spent soooo much money on this car!!!!

Its a sod, but if the sump has a split then its game over (unless you get it welded!)

To replace a sump is not a difficult job - an hours labour at the absolute most and whatever the parts cost (replacement sump and gasket) shouldn't be too horrific :D

Aaah, so its your fault then!? :rotfl:

Simple easy job. Might as well ask them to change the oil filter at the same time though (unless they did that with the previous works) then you have a full oil and filter change :D

It's the sort of thing you could do yourself, though you will have to catch and dispose of the old oil carefully. Your local tip should have a facility for taking old engine oil.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

it is indeed a simple job to do at home, but the OP doesn't strike me as the sort of person who would have the confidence to pick up a spanner and have a go, otherwise I would have mentioned it (Please OP, correct me if I'm wrong :D)
