opening new bank account

newbie saver here!

i was thinking of opening a new savings accounted recommended on MSE website via a branch

I haven't opened a bank account in a while,
do I need to book an appointment?
should i dress casually or suit/tie?
what kinds of ID and information will I need?

and yes, I am well aware they will probably dress up other accounts to open to make them sound really good to benefit themselves instead of me

thanks!

If you're opening a savings account they should be pleased to see you however you are dressed.
Proof of address, proof of identity needed.
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !

    1) You can open them online nowadays, maybe easier if you can, a few branches I have visited require appointments.

    2) lol no.

    3) Depends on the bank! Drivers licence and proof of address should be the minimum needed.

Dress how you like - I can't see it making a difference

It can help (timewise) to make an appointment, but if they are not busy they'll see you anyway. You might have to wait until the right person is free.

You need to be able to prove WHO you are and WHERE you live. Passport and a couple of utility bills should be fine but there are always alternatives if you don't have these.

I was thinking if I dressed in a more formal manner, they're less likely to take me as an idiot and dry to flog me every package they possibly can.

The best way to counter any sales pitch is a polite 'No, thank you', rather than through sartorial elegance.

Last time I printed out the account details, told them I had done my research and this was the product I wanted. Just said no to other offers.
