Remove audio from MP4/FLV clip

I've got some MP4 clips to upload to YouTube, but I want to remove the audio from them (it's completely irrelvant to the clip), but keep them otherwise the same. I've not found any software on the PC to do this easily, and if I do this in iMovie on my OHs Mac, I have to export and re-encode the video, and I can never get the file so efficient for the size.

I can convert to FLV with no change in quality, by uploading to YouTube and then just downloading the file, so if I could strip out the audio in either format, it'd be great.

If you use Super (a freeware video converter) Download here (scroll to the the bottom of the page and click on the dark blue underlined script) to convert the MP4 to FLV you can select to disable the audio when converting
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

It worked but similar to the Apple software, ballooned the file size by nearly 10MB, even though I kept the same aspect ratio / video size...

I use WinFF to extract the audio itself from MP4 videos from youtube. Not sure if you can try it in reverse and strip the audio completely

You could also use VLC media player, I believe it has encoding facilities

  • You could use format factory from:
    http://www.pcfreetime.com/

Choose the "all to .flv" conversion option, then select your existing .flv file and choose to disable audio under the output options button.

    This program is free.

I use WinFF too. [STRIKE]If those videos are encoded with H264/AVC video codec then[/STRIKE]
It's fairly easy to remove the audio. [STRIKE]It just takes two passes.
If they use different codecs then it's probably still possible, but will need thinking about.[/STRIKE]
The object is to strip away the audio track without having to decode and re-encode the video. So you get the same size of file (or slightly less) and exactly the same video quality.

To find out what codecs are used in a media file I use MediaInfo.

    And WinFF from here:-http://winff.org/html_new/

  • Sounds just the ticket. THe issue is obviously when stripping out the audio, the utilities I'm using are re-encoding and the file size is getting larger.

    OK
If you decide to remove those sound tracks using WinFF I can help you with the settings. It's not difficult.
    Just ask.
