I'm about to move in my new army house. but just wondered what are the rules if any ? i.e can i take in a lodger.

No lodger's allowed I'm afraid, as they can be issued for immediate family only as a permentant residence. You're supposed to request permission for a friend or family member staying, if over a certain length in time. Some housing officers are more relaxed that others, but it's worth checking with them first.
