Van stolen, found by police but taken again - advice needed

sorry OP but as most has said your neighbour has no leg to stand on with either insurance or police, yes the insurance would invalidate his cover and claim in the first theft and myabe the second the police offered to recover the vehicle to their pound where it would be considered recovered and secure, your neighbour stupidly refused as far as the police were concerend they found the stolen property informed the owner and arrangements were made to recover as far as that goes the fullfilled their duty and were free to leave the vehicle if it looked secure (locked doors and windows).
your neighbour needs to inform his insurance of both thefts, i would take a late night scout around that area and see if its been parked up in a side street its possibly being used for some sort of activity if he finds it do not drive it away inform the police and stay with the vehicle good luck.0
