Hi, its my hubbys 30th Birthday next weekend & I was thinking of making him cupcakes with the kids instead of one large cake.
Was woundering if anyone could give me advice on decorating them to make them extra special?
I like the look of the ones with what looks like a cream topping ontop...hows that made?
Many thanks for any advice?

I made a cupcake wedding cake for friends last year, and found how to do all the swirly icing etc by using Google, it gave me loads of different websites etc, plus some video tutorials on You tube2 angels in heaven :A0

I made some for my daughters school fate they went down really well. I just made some buttercream icing,(quantitys are on the back of the icing sugar pack) used the tiniest amount of colouring, lots of edible glitter and rice paper toppers and they were really effective and simple to do. I did want to make white ones but I couldnt get hold of the american ingerdient they use as the lightest butter you can get here is lurpack and they still just looked like butter on top of the cake.
Here is a pic of my first efforts:0 -
Cream Cheese frosting
200g full fat cream cheese (I use Tesco value)
100g soft butter
600g icing sugar
Flavourings
Strawberry - add 1tbsp jam and a drop of red food colouring
Vanilla - add 1tsp vanilla extract
Its yum0 -
danables - WoW there great
They look very yummy
I think I've had a blonde moment (even though I'm not!) I got it into my mind it was some extra special mixture to make it...dohlol
Many thanks for your help both of you.

Hi,
Angelax those cupcakes look fab!
I've been experimenting with different cupcake recipes recently, trying to do some of the American ones for an 'authentic' taste. However, they all seem to use plain flour (or as they call 'all purpose flour'), plus a tsp or so of baking powder. I find that the cake hardly rises, and has a very dense, sticky compact texture, making it very heavy. Has anyone else tried them and had the same experience?
What cake recipe are you guys using? One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0
