Well only had the job 3 months and been laid off, really gutted. Don't think it will be easy to get another job as I don't have a 5 year soild work/school history.
Heres the problem I have 2 debts (listed below) along with 3 direct debts (£90 car insurance, £30 T-Mobile - Dosn't end till March 22nd and 3 MobileBB £30). I have no savings due to me sorting my car out and paying off a small credit card bill last month, not sure what to do from here, due to sign on Monday :(
Any help or tips would be great.

Debts:
Halifax Credit Card; £3118.38 (Min payment £53.90) Limit £3250
Littlewoods; £826.93 (Min payment £137.64) Limit £5400

  • Didnt want to read and run. (((hugs))) at this tough time, maybe post an SOA (link on main DFW board) with your new JSA income so people can give you advice?

Best of luck, hope things look up soon.

  • oh, i am sorry to hear your bad news.

Ok, lets get an SOA done 1st things 1st and take it from there

    2. If your contract ends 22/3 you will have to give 30 days - this can be done 22 feb, so next week. You usually pay in advance so your feb bill will cover March, maybe you have already paid this so your phone bill will be minimal.

    Jobwise, what do/can you do?

If you can do admin/sales etc look at places like www.peopleperhour.com

You 'bid' for jobs so maybe have a look there today to see if any of them look like something you have/can do. Its free to join and you get 10 bids per month on the free package. They take a % of the money you get paid and it is ok, i have never not been paid etc. You can pick up work at a few days notice - obviously many of them are self employed so you should pay tax etc on it on a SE basis. Get registered with www.reed.co.uk and moster etc.

Do you have protection insurance on the cc and littlewoods? can you not put in a claim - not sure how this works tho as never had/claimed

re littlewoods this isnt ldeal but have you purchased anything recently? If so you can email them and ask can you put the item/s on the buy now pay feb 2010 this will bring your payments down.

    Hope you work things out!

right first thing as ever is to post a details SOA link in one of the stickied threads on this forum, we can then look through it and try and point out areas which you could save some money.

as for your debts first thing i would say is to contact them, explain the situation (hopefully you will get a helpful person on the end of the line) most time even if they might not be able to give a payment break they might be able to change the payment date to a later time to give a bit of time for things to get organised (last thing they want is to not get paid) failing that explain the situation and pay them a token payment £1 is the usual token, yes you will get a default, yes this will stay on your file for 6 years however you have to live in the here and now and credit is really not that good to have (hence all of us on here trying to become debt free)

with you car insurance - thats a LOT £90 a month is shocking might be worth while phoning them and seeing if you can drop your cover for the time being, yes it is not ideal, however there are usualy 3 different levels of cover, 3rd party, 3rd party fire and theft and fully comp so they might be able to drop to a lower level of cover so long as you stay with them

mobile phone, well you only have one month left, so you might be able to get a 'upgrade' deal now this can mean they would allow you to drop your tarriff to a much lower one and they also do a sim only one for £15 a month with 600 mins and unlimited texts or if they wont let you go on that they do a normal plan for £10 a month with 100 mins and 100 texts or a other normal one for £15 with 300 of each
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

Thankfully I live with my father and he said not to worry about rent etc.. until Im back in work :) Only really use my car for work so that won't be getting much use. Unfortunately I didn't take any payment protection plan out as I thought the cost where to high, if only had had a crystal ball hey . I did work in the security sector (Full SIA + CSCS) involed alot of admin work so have been looking at that aswell. The problem I have is that most security companys want a full soild 5 year work/school history which I don't have.
Just had a ring around for door work In my local area but nothing going :(

Just rang my insurance company and saved myself £22.42 a month from going from fully comp to 3rd party fire and theft, but also kept my windscreen cover and breakdown cover at no extra cost (was included in fully comp), so big thanks to you and the kind gent at Quinn Direct :T

thats great news, just remember since it is now only third party fire and theft that your insurance does not cover damage to your car unless its set on fire or nicked so extra careful driving ;) but at least it has saved you about £300 over the year

quick edit, incase you didnt know or you are 'paying' for the breakdown cover (i know you said kept for no extra cost but i dont know if they come as free add on with your insurance or if they are suplimented add ons which might have had different supliments for different cover levels) you can currently get AA breakdown cover for the equivilent of £7 for the year using quidco cashback (£28 for the policy with £21 cash back)

Why not go and work at McDonald's, you will easily make enough to meet your monthly payments and it is secure employment. As a rule you will be able to work many extra hours. I appreciate that there is a certain stigma to working there but being proud does not pay the bills. All the best.

Make sure you get all the benefits you can, use
    http://www.entitledto.co.uk/Default.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1
and ask at Job Centre for HC1 form ( free NHS medical costs) they don't tell you about that form,
the Peeps on the Work & Benefits boards will know (but wear a tin hat:cool:)

The good thing is you have the full SIA+ CSCS cards that does make a difference:T

Ask the Job centre to send you on C.V. training thing :D, a good CV is about covering up the blanks;), and any traing you think might help you,(wether the Job centre knows what they are doing is another matter;):()
