in Credit cards
I'm sure this is a stupid question, but I genuinely don't know the answer.
I spend very little per year on groceries etc, so getting a cashback credit card isn't attractive unless I can pay off bills and the mortgage with it. Is this possible and / or advisable?

if the supplier accepts CC payments then yes if not then no.
you need to check the acceptable methods of payment for your specific bills
so e.g. many insurance companies allow CC payments
most utilities don't0 -
In general most mortgage companies, utility providers, councils etc. don't accept credit cards as payments.
There are a few exceptions (tv licence might be one).
So you have to check in every case.
Normally they make the payment information very easy for you to find.
With utility bills like gas/electricity there are sometimes good discounts for paying by Direct debit, so you should certianly compare the savings with getting cashback.
Also for seasonal bills like gas, it can help your budgetting if you pay monthly rather than get much larger bills in the winter.0 -
just called Nationwide to ask - they said no.. thanks all0

Good question though as I know some mortgage companies accept cards to collect arrears. Some might accept cards.Property Consultant

It has been reported if you phone them in a panic with a story that you've just cleared your credit card in full and not left enough money to make your next payment then they'll grudgingly accept a card payment - long running discussion on it on the stoozing site http://www.stoozing.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1218039089"A child of five could understand this. I haven't read the story, but trying to con an organisation and lying just to get a bit of cashback, seems to be going a bit too far to me.
I know this site is about money saving, but I'm not aware we support deception.0
