charging laptop from car

Is it possible to use the cigarette car lighter to charge a samsung laptop - have seen some devices but very pricy.

about £30 but check is ok for your model first

Yes. You could use an inverter, then you could plug in any mains operated equipment up to 300 watts (including laptop chargers)

Good option, but be aware that apparently this uses a lot more petrol when you use an inverter.

Hardly say 'a lot more'. A laptop uses anything from 20-90w. Allowing for inefficiency with the inverter, it would be like driving around with head lights on.
