Pre-pregnancy and pregnancy suppliments

Hi, We are just about to try to conceive our second child and last time round I took pregnacare suppliments and folic acid, but when I went to buy some yesterday there were so many choices and so expensive, can anyone give me any ideas of where I could buy them cheaper than boots or tesco, also I saw there is a new product called feminbon (sp?) any help on what are the best products now, as it was 3yrs ago I bought my last lot.

We took Elevit pregnancy supplement which has a number of vitamins and minerals in it include folic acid and iron. It is stated that it actually reduces the risk of neural tube defects like spina bifida and it has worked so far with our 2 children.

I'm taking Sanatogen from boots this time round with my second. they're 8.99 for 30 tablets, but i got them when they were on 3 for 2. I tried Holland and barrats folic acid 250 tablets for £2.50 but I felt so ill and had such a bad stomach I went back to the stuff I took in the first pregnancy and I have never felt better.

I'd say go with what you went with last time just incase the same happens to you.

That is what folic acid does. If you are eating healthily, you don't need to take anything else than folic acid (we have been advised this by a number of doctors and nurses). Although, I have been taking Pregnacare for about 2 years and only recently switched to plain folic acid.

I agree with Ginvzt plain old folic acid is fine as long as your diet is good. I have the tesco one which cost me about £2.50 for 90 tablets they are one a day and tiny compared to the giant complete vitamin supplements for pregnant women. i hate swallowing tablets.

I just took folic acid beforehand (for a month) and for the first 3 months of pregnancy. I then went onto take the Tesco Own Brand Pregnancy Vitamins as my diet isn't great. I think I did buy the Santongen ones once because they were on offer and worked out cheaper than Tesco

I took and am still taking Pregnacare cos my diet isnt fab either.

They cost £7 (something) from Sainsburys for a box of 90 (so 3 months) but got them for a bargin £5.23 or something in there a couple weeks ago.

I'm taking the Pregnacare ones as well, my diet is rubbish i would rather be getting extra vitamins and minerals. I got mine on offer a few weeks ago from Tesco think they were 3 boxes for £16. I think theyre on offer quite often if u keep your eyes open for them.

I take pregnacare too. got them when they were on 3 for 2 at tesco, they were £8.80 for 90 tablets so at full price works out at less than 10p a day. got 9 months worth supply for £17.60 hth x

Thanks for all your replies, think I'll stick to what I used last time as well, my diet isn't always great its a bit hit and miss with DH being a shift worker and a LO!
