How do you pay for your house repairs

Just wondered how everyone else managed to pay for emergency repairs on their house. We need our chimney rebuilding and have had a few quotes. Going to cost around £2000 -£3000. We just don't have that kind of money. Not even £200 - £ 300. How does everyone else manage to get these repairs done. Most jobs my DH does. I just don't think this one is a job that i want him to do. Any advice . Thanks in advance

No i didn't think it would. My only solution is to ask for an extra £2000 on top of the mortgage. Is this a good idea.Anyone got any better ideas.

I would try to avoid increasing your mortgage .
This is a secured loan and you will be paying the extra for years .

also as you have a five year mortgage deal until May your lender could charge you a fee to increase your mortgage .Can you get an overdraft from your bank .then transfer it to a 0% CC . Maybe not ideal stituation but this is what I used to do .As this chimney is your only form of heating ( and you have a new lounge carpet )well maybe new heating would be as cheap .

Just for anyone who is interested. we managed to get our chimney repaired for less than £1000.:j I am really pleased at saving so much on my original quoye:T Basically we did the donkey work ourselves. Builder charged £350. Materials cost under £100 scaffolding down to £200. £650 is much more reasonable. So it can be done

No unfortunately not. Because it is generall wear and tear.Building insurance won't cover it.
