Avoid VoipCheap - they are scam artists and do not have any customer service!!

A bit of feedback on Voipcheap. I have seen that they have been given a recommendation of sorts on an article about cheap Voip calls on this site.

Please AVOID VoipCheap. They have no customer services number, do not reply to emails (2 weeks later and I am still waiting for a reply), and have been charging me for merely attempting to make a call and deducting from my credit!!

Yes, that's right, I have been charged for just the attempt to make a call. A connection fee is one thing, but to charge for mereley dialling a number and not being connected is a joke. They don't mention this anywhere on their site or tarriff breakdown.

Call quality is poor and people keep on complaining when I have used their service about the call being choppy. I use other Voip services like Skype and Gradwell and have a 50mb Virgin high speed fibre optic internet connection so it has nothing to do with the quality of my internet connection. They scam ten pounds off you, and then charge a dubious 20% or so VAT on top making it £12!!

Avoid Voipcheap. Please please please avoid Voipcheap. They are scam artists in my opinion.

  • PS. To balance out what I say, just in case anyone thinks I am biased towards certain services, whilst I said use Skype and Gradwell too, I find both of these services to be relatively transparent and the quality of their calls good ... but TOO expensive!

I am on the lookout for a Voip provider that is honest, offers a semblance of customer service, good call quality, and good rates. Any recommendations? Please don't recommend any service from the Betamax group (operators of Voipcheap and other nasty spin off brands).

Neither of these two statements is true.

They don't charge connection fees, and they don't charge for non-connected calls.

If you've been charged, some forms of call diversion count as answering the original call; this depends on someone's pbx or similar, not your provider, and and others would also charge.

And their tariff sheet clearly depicts the VAT.

Wouldn't it also be fair to say that you actually get what you pay for...?
  • Buzby - no, you're not right. I pay nothing to make Skype to Skype calls, and the quality is fantastic. In this day and age, suppliers have their business models and that is their concern, the consumer has a right to get what they are paying for.

Redux - I am telling you that I have a whole raft of charges on my account for call attempts. I am not stupid, it's happened. It's contrary to their stated pricing policy. Why would I lie? They also refuse to respond to any emails I send and there is no customer services number. I also have not heard of a 20% VAT rate. This is a dodgy company. I have come on here in good faith to voice my concerns about Voipcheap so that others will think twice.

I would have expected the VAT rate to be 19% as it is a German company. Where are they based?
