Roof costs

Hi Guys,
Not sure if is this is the right place as this is my first post
We want to get our 1950's 3 bed semi roof replaced but are abit worried about different costs - some people are saying no more than 3K but we have had quotes ranging from 3K to 6K !
Also wondering if it worth just getting the roof cleaned and sprayed with something like AquaShield instead but worried that will just bring up further problems that we would need to get a roofer in for anyway.
Need to make sure that I get a guarantee as want to make sure covered by the home insurance incase anything happens. We had the garage roof blow off in Jan 2007 !!
Thanks for any advice - we live in Widnes in the North West

we have got a 1950s semi with a slightly dodgy roof, rosemary tiles i think? one builder said £3,000, another said £5,200. It would be replaced with slate. It depends how much lead is involved and how big the house is. But I think it is going to be expensive.0
