Scottish widows pay out

Hi
I have completed all the necessary forms for the demutualisation of SW. I received two letters informing me that I received £1742.00 in August 2000 and £9417.00 also in August 2000. My husband and I have two policies.
My husband recalls the smaller amount but neither of us recall receiving a large cheque like SW claim. They have told us that although they know both cheques were cashed that is all the info they have. We have not changed banks in 20 years, however our bank also is having trouble finding this deposit.
I know we would remember a large sum dropping through our letter box!
We did not know anything about this payout until we read Martins Web page last year. Any one any suggestions about where we can go from here. I cannot simply let his amount of money go as I am positive they did not send us such a large amount of money
Thanks
Dawn
