Either way, you'd probably be better off with something else.
Didn't realise there was an alternative to either of these - what would you suggest instead please?0 -
you need to have flash installed for that to work. The site he mentioned was https://www.miniclip.com. I can't check it here as don't have firefox installed, but he said he tried using firefox on his grandad's pc and it wouldn't work.
Firefox (with flash installed & enabled) works fine with that site.0 -
If you don't want second hand, can he or you stretch to £106.97 for a refurbished netbook with a 3 month warranty (extendable to a year)? I use a similar Eee PC netbook to this and it's fine (this one's better than mine as it has an 80GB hard disk). It runs linux and is very, very easy to use. They were originally designed for children and come with lots of great educational software as well as an office suite and internet browser. It's wireless too.
Darn, now out of stock. There is an Eee PC 701 ending on ebay tomorrow near me which I could collect and, therefore, see working - currently at £65 with one bid. Don't know whether to go for that or hold out in the hope that another one of the above becomes available at laptops direct (have asked if it's likely so hopefully will know more later). Obviously the 904HD is better with a 80GB HD and more RAM, but if 4GB HD and 512MB RAM will be enough for my son, is he spending the extra money unnecessarily? Furthermore they do have a 904HD at Laptops direct (http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Grade_A2_-_EEEPC_904HD_Black_Netbook_A2-EEEPC904HD-BK003X/version.asp) with XP for £134.97 so, if this is heaps better than the 701, should I lend him the extra to get this instead?
Didn't realise it was going to be such hard work sorting this out:(
What do you experts think I should do?0 -

yes (i've only really used flash in ubuntu/debian so cannot confirm compatibility with other Linux Distros).
In ubuntu, its as simple as typingsudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
at a terminal prompt. This works fine on 32bit versions of Ubuntu, however 64bit versions of ubuntu require a little bit more work but it's still fairly easy to do (you just download a slightly different version from adobe and manually copy it to the correct folder).0 -

Hang on, hang on, hold your horses - I thought Miniclip used Shockwave rather than Flash? You can get Shockwave Flash to work on Linux if you use WINE, but it's an extra step... that said, there are lots of game sites out there that rely on Flash as opposed to Shockwave.0

i think it uses flash more.
and thats a horrible way of running shockwave as it might cause other issues
I'm using an amd64 version of ubuntu karmic (running a beta (or alpha?)) version of flash and all the games i tested on miniclip worked fine0 -
