British Gas and British Gas Homecare Package

My boyfriend lives in a relatively newly built property which has an unusual heating system that uses a heat exchanger. He has had real problems getting a plumber to service the heating system and because of this, decided to join the British Gas Homecare Package (he was also with British Gas for his Gas and Elec).
I have been shopping around on his behalf to see, since the prices have gone up, if he can get a better deal elsewhere and it looks likely he stands to save over £200 switching.
However, before I tell him the good news I thought I should check. Does anyone know if the Gas Homecare package is available to non-BG customers?
Thanks

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
We have the british gas homecare 200 and have always found them to be very good, we use powergen for our fuel at present. Were thinking of upgrading to the homecare 400, can anyone advise if this one is any good?0

I don't know what package my boyfriend is on, I will find out and come back.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Hi everyone,
I'm already on Homecare 400 and have just received the letter stating how much the cost is going up this time - to £305 a year, which includes £18 discount for no call-outs. This is an increase of over 10% (as it was the year before as well) and I think, far too much, so I'm considering downgrading to Homecare 300 or even 200. Has anyone else been brave enough to do this??0 -
The lower the cover, the greater the risk!
I would suggest that the 100 package from BG is best value as there is little that can go wrong with a radiator, it is very unlikely you will ever use plumming and drains or electrical care but should you be one of the 'unlikely' then if you do not have cover it could cast a fortune!
It boils down to if you can afford it, take it!0
