Debenhams Nightmare!!

Hi everyone

I'm so upset and wonder if anyone can help?

Today in Debenhams i ordered 2 'Tigerlily Ivory Float Petal Dresses' (Sorry no idea how to post a link or even if i'm allowed to). Everything was fine they told me they were in stock and i paid (using the daily mail voucher). I was so happy.

But... just now they have rang me to say one is really out of stock and that part of my order has now been cancelled aarrgghh!! Whats worse is the attitude of the woman - never spoke to anyone so rude. I asked her if she could refund my delivery charge and the other dress cos 1 is no good (i needed 3 but got the other in store also today). She snapped back 'Well if you like i can refund you the reduced delivered charge of 1.99 and charge you the proper price of 3.99'!! I couldn't believe what i was hearing!! Then i said cancel everything i mean - to which she said no - you'll will just have to refuse delivery of the one. I said what about the delivery charge and again she just said no, you have paid it and you won't be getting it back - she then said you only have half an hour after ordering to cancel!! Is this right does anyone know? I said well its taken you 9 hours to tell me its out of stock, why didn't someone ring me within half an hour? She just said its tough basically - its not in stock so you can't have it!!

Major letter of complaint to follow but for now that doesn't help me. I remember on this thread not so long ago someone posting about what to do if debenhams try to cancel your order but i have searched and searched and can't find it - can anyone remember?

Can't find anywhere else to get this dress from either and i've got my heart set on it.

Hope someone can help - thank u in advance.

  • Hi there,

If its any help I just checked online and they have it available in pink here? Sorry you've had an awful experience, I know what its like when you have your heart set on something!

There's also a number on there you can call if its out of stock. My advice would be to sleep on it then call first thing in the morning, asking to speak to a manager?

Sorry cant be of more help.

yes - I agree - sleep on it and approach it fresh tomorrow.

Speak to someone else, see if they can help - they may be able to source the dresses from other stores.

Let us know how you get on. x

  • Id suggest a call to a manager, explain what happened and the horrible way you were spoken to.

Tell them one dress is no good to you, and if you had been told there was only 1 available you wouldnt have bothered placing the order so you want the whole thing refunded including the delivery as its there !!!!!! up not yours.

You should easily get it sorted, you just need to speak to the right person :)

  • I've purchased 3 of these dresses for my flower girls. Not sure when you are getting married but they have them in and out of stock all the time. I got 25% off mine in the last promotional sale day they had. They must be due another one soon.

Not sure if it helps at all but they are very small for the size. My flowergirls are 3 but I had to send the original age 3 ones back as they were tiny and reordered the next size up. They are small for their age too. Read somewhere else that tigerlily stuff comes up small. Do they have the next size up in stock?

    Bless you lovely ladies!

The dresses are for twin girls who are nearly three, i'm kicking myself cos i tried them on them a week or so ago then checked there were plenty in stock but didn't order as i didnt have the daily mail voucher - never thinking this would happen. Greed i suppose wanting the £24 discount but being money saving and all and them telling me they had loads!

Anyway i'm going to ring up tomorrow or write a letter to the manager about how the lady spoke to me but there is an update - I rang back just now and asked if they had an age 4 thinking maybe my little twin could get away with the 3 and my bigger twin in the 4 (getting someone to take them in a bit) and i spoke to a different lady who was lovely. There is a 4 but she said she couldn't add it to my existing order so i would have to pay an addition £4 for delivery and full price of £40. Telling her of what has happened today she checked with a superviser and came back to say i could have it for the £32 and they would give me free delievery on this one. So i'm much happier now although its not ideal.

The pink one is beautiful but my older bridesmaids are in red so its only this one or start again really.

Thank you so much for replying ladies and hope everything is going well for you.

Will let you know what happens next.

  • hang on this happened to me too. and this is what i done, still got the one delivered in stock and kept the one i bought in store then rang the out of stock number the lady was really helpful and rang stores near to me. the dress i had delivered was too big for one of the Bridemaids so i went to the store that had the sizr for her and they said they did not have the 12 i was looking for but guess what when i went in store they did so now i have the three dresses i need in the three different sizes okay i never got the delivery back and a bit of messing about but it was worth it. All my dresses where in the sale to £40 for 2 and £32 for the other i bought in store as it had a tiny snag......good luck with your search, but i would try a different store, guess i am lucky several stores near me!

I am getting a dress like that for my daughter who is my flower girl, its £65 made to measure and its made out of the same fabric as my dress so perfect match to me and the bow/petals are being made out of the same fabric as my bridesmaids dresses (also made to measure) so she has a splash of colour and perfect mathc too :D
