My daughter bought a 28ins tv £400 August 2005,broke in JUN 2006,within the 12 months guarantee etc.....also she has the what ever happens policy from Master care. Engineer came out 3 times, unrepairable etc.....they came last week Thursday to take tv away,my daughter was issued with a voucher to replace at Curry's etc......now the hassle begins......the policy states like for like in specs,no matter the original price. Yes that's what they say, today she went to curry's for replacement, staff and manager very helpful, they don't do normal widescreen tv's any more,no market for them apparantly,so the only like for like in specs,Sony tv's are Lcd's and the prices are way over the vouchers daughter has,but manager, found like for like for them,in specs in LCD.So they phoned the company that issues a code to overide,to get vouchers to make up difference, they said no way,as the manager must be helping them,he's in on it.lol...that's what they said to my daughter on the phone in shop  In the meantime the Curry's manager is raging at them accusing him of being on the customers side.lol.... But he was doing his job. They were very rude to my daughter on phone and basically they told her they can have a 32ins flat screen, like it or lump it,but my daughter has tried to explain that she bought a very expensive tv/living room unit ( full wall unit) that will only hold 28ins tv,as the 32ins would not fit,far to broad, then they(on the phone) said to the manager how can they fit a 32 ins LCD then,to which the manager
replied, because it's only about 5ins thick,it would fit anywere, but a 32ins widescreen is much deeper etc......any way my daughter is left with no tv,but has been advised to get in touch with trading standards......
Any other advise as what they can do,apart from buy another living room tv unit...........which is not an option..
It's just the fact that the policy clearly states like for like in specs.....
What happens they stop selling the original item

Hi
DOn't know if it helps, but I work at a huge Currys store, with a massive range of TVs. Your voucher should cover you for a Toshiba 28yt56. Its a great model, at least as comparable to a Sony, and it has digital reciver built in. I will pm you with more details that I cannot share on the forum"Don't critisise what people look like, how they speak, where they are from, and what they are called. They cannot help it.
Do critisise what they say, and what they do, especially if what they say is different to what they do. They can help that"

The thing here is you are trying to get another Sony which they dont produce anymore, but you could get a comparable like for like product with the vouchers just not the same make.
I can strongly recomend a Toshiba i got my dad one last week from Currys for £89 28" widescreen , was ex display and its a dam fine picture one of the best ive seen0 -

I think,it's the principle now,and how she was treated that has got her more than anything ( not by the curry staff, but by the policy company).....i think she wants brand new.Not spoken to her today, will keep posting.....thanks for all the help and replies....:T It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice. :T"A bargain is something you can't use at a price you can't resist."

isnt the 28yt56 out of stock and now capped as no more are coming in in the near future or am i confusing that with the 28z47b, i personally thought the yt56 had gone to ending in 97p hence it being eol, but as i said i may be confusing it for another model,
for the op, what sort of value did they offer and what model sony was the original tv as there must be something on the stock list for whatever happens litigation to see of equal specs as what they do is find a tv with equal specs and then process voucher for that amount0
