Sky chasing make believe debt

Hi, A couple of months ago I cancelled Sky and received an email saying everything was paid up and they were sorry to see my leave etc. etc. I then received a couple of letters saying I owed them £6.22 which I ignored. I now have a Final Warning saying if I don't pay they will refer me to a debt collecting service. I don't want to pay, especially as I have an email saying I don't owe them anything. Would they really refer me for the sake of 6 quid ??

I'm presuming you have already spoken to Sky about this. What have they said the £6 relates too? and what did they say when you said about the email confirming you have no debts to them.0 -
They have just said it money owing on the account. I've told them about the email and they maintain I still owe them the £6.22. I don't really want to ring an 0844 number which costs me money to speak to somebody in India who will not listen to me and just tell me to pay it.0

Use saynoto0870 to find an alternative number and ask sky for a breakdown of the £6.22, what an odd amount £6.22 is0

You don't say which Sky services you had. If you had Sky Talk then it could be for unbilled calls.0

When you cancel Sky you effectively give them 30 days notice at the end of which they tally up how much is still owing, or usually, how much they should give you back bearing in mind you pay in advance. It may well be that your cancellation may have taken you into the next billing period which may account for this charge. Did you have a direct debit and did you cancel this when you cancelled Sky?
And as above, what services did you have? Did you have Sky talk, for example, could these be call charges?0 -
I had the same problem, I cancelled, agreed a date with Sky when the last Direct Debit would be paid and after that I cancelled any further bank transactions. For several months I got letters claiming I owed them money, I would phone them and they would agree it was their mistake and that my account was clear. Next month the same would happen again, only eventualy they threatened debt collectors would be notified. After several letters from them, and phone calls by me when they always apologised and admitted their error I managed to persuade a manager to write a letter saying that my account was closed and that I owed nothing. This was in case debt collectors did call, unlikely though that was. Since then I've had no further trouble, but there is no chance of my ever going back to Sky, despite the special offers and enticements they keep sending.:mad:0

I called and we comprimised on £2.97 which I've now paid. I've now got a freesat HD+ box which compared to Sky payments will pay for itself in 9 months. No sky sports though, luckily my mum still subscribes0

You can't record on it though once you've cancelled Sky (so I understand)."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

I think you misunderstand. I have sold my SKY+ box and bought a Humax Freesat HD+ box.0
