Are refurbished PC's worth it?

We are looking to buy a new PC as ours died and as we have a nice screen we only need a tower.
We were looking at PC world and found a few nice ones around £350 but some were refurbished. my Question is are they worth the risk or not?
Asked PC World and was told refurbs could be Ex displays that have been running all day but only on main page.
we would like quad core but only have £350 to spend so what would you say we should buy?
Thank you all for your help

You could buy a new quad core for a shade under £350, e.g. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/167441 - or, if you can squeeze another £40 out of the budget, - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/1764950

I've bought 2 refurbed laptops in the past (from Curry's I think) and they both work well. Make sure they come with the same waranty as a new one and you shouild be fine - after all, all refurbs are individually tested before being sold, but usually only a small sample of new goods undergo the same tests.0

Personally I wouldn't buy them from 'that shop' as ex display means their fans will probably be choked with dust and the keyboards have had sticky fingers on.
If it's proper 'manufacturers rework' then no problems, I had a HP refurb from Morgan Computers, lasted for 6 years no problems.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
How on earth do you refurb a pc? A clean install of os is a clean install not refurb.0

There used to be a poster called Donnie who was good with the refurbs (rubbish at arguing though), mainly from argos on ebay I think and toshibas.

why a quad-core?0

Refurbished and ex-display stock are ok, provided that you get a fairly substantial discount off the normal price.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

if you're on a budget then you should really be focusing on ram and gfx rather than specifying a quad core, a dual core is more than adequate in general0

a manufacturer refurb is cleaned then tested all parts confirmed are working anything broke replaced and retested ok, the hardrive formatted and factory os reinstalled then out to customer as if as bought as new.
i have had 3lappys (normally £420new cost £300 delivered) for family like this and 1 desktop(normally £540 cost me £300 delivered) from dell outlet all good. comes a with years warranty.

now ex-display exactly that you would be lucky if they have even opened it and give it a hoover out inside problems you get if comess with monitor is ghosted images where has sat still for hours, not to mention wear of all parts etc etc. what you buy is what you get.
if i where to buy one of these i would want a huge huge discount and min year warranty perhaps some free software on it as well. otherwise would steer clear of these.0
