Alloy Key
We've lost the alloy key for our car (suspect ds may have chucked it when cleaned the car out for us).
Any MSE ideas on how to solve this?
Or is it going to have to be a probably very expensive trip to the garage.

Do you mean the key for the locking wheel nuts? My dad once bought a car with those without the key; when he needed the wheels taking off for tyres or whatever it was he told the guy at the garage who said it was no problem and simply forced a normal socket over the nut with a hammer. Don't worry about it, so much for safety of your wheels I know but when you actually need them taking off (which I presume isn't now?) it should be ok.0

It shouldn't be too expensive. I had a similar problem and it cost me about £20 for a new set of wheel nuts (plus locking key). This was at the main dealer, they swapped them over at that price too.
Your local dealer will be able to force the old nuts off. But they will then be un-useable. Depending on the car if you take it to the main dealer they might even have a master key which mean less risk of damage to your wheel/car.
Just don't get a puncture in the mean time!0 -
