company backtracking on voluntary redundancy

We have been offered the opportunity of voluntary redundancy , as the company seeks to re-organize itself.
Now after agreeing a redundancy package and a leaving date , the company has now decided to renegade on its deal, and say we cannot leave untill the unions accept new working conditions for the existing workforce that would remain .
My question is could I regard my employer in breach of contract as we had mutually accepted a termination of employment date?

is it in writing?Always ask ACAS0

I don't think so, this was tried by people in a company I know.
Legal advice(and ACAS) said that redundancy can be withdrawn right up to the last day.
You can still leave on the date but not get redundancy
If you allready accepted another job based on this date then this will make a case and the employer would be taking a big risk in not letting you go as agreed, without the job it would be risky to leave and assume you would get paid.
This was our experience you should get legal advice, try your home insurance policy if it has legal cover to see if they will take a case.0
