Off Line with AOL(broadband). No help at all.

I have spent all day trying to work out why I could not get on line, not to mention spending a fortune on AOL telephone line. At the end I decided to to try once more - turning off the router and then turning off the laptop and leaving them off a bit longer. I am now back on line, AMAZING.

This started last night when I took the laptop to a different room and to use it with just the battery.
It would not connect to server.

What causes these intensely irritating problems? Does anyone know?

By the way, this laptop came from John Lewis 12 months ago and has a two year warranty but they won't help with problems like mine. You have to go to a company called PC Doc or something like that and they want £45 per hour to come and have a look.
