Thanks for all the great advice everyone

One other question - we like the sound of the British Gas Energy Smart 'package'. Does anyone have any direct experience of using this and has it helped you cut back on energy usage?
Himattm00 I am on Energy Smart with the Online Saver tarrif and as much as it is a useful tool, I have become TOTALLY neurotic with the meter thing, always looking how much its on etc and so have decided to ditch it, and for the predict your bill feature, again as useful as it is, I have decided this site will be just as good for me to monitor usage
http://smartmeter.ukpower.co.uk/
I did a comparison to check, and if I change to EDF online version 5, I can save approx £400 per year, our usage this month just gone would have been £45 LESS on gas and electric combined, so I have switched yesterday. Were very very helpful on phone and all going through in about 6 weeks, have excellent reviews online too by all accounts customer service wise etc.CC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.0 -
Thanks spinningsheep, that's some useful information. The smartmeter website looks like it could be useful once we've moved. I'll check out EDF's tariffs and try and compare them to some of the other suppliers.0
