today i gave powergen a meter reading , not odd you think well i gave them one 7 weeks and 5 days ago. anyway our meter reading before was 98972 and this one is 00233 , meter bill of £117.05 wow a lot ah !! odd thing is we are in credit still on the prepayment meter box for £32.98 and we still have £5.00 in emergency. we have put in the meter since 2nd of june £85.00 and we were in credit for £27.65 on the bill not the meter, i know at the time of the previous meter reading we did have about £20.00 or more pound in there.

another thing is we have two meters ( normal old dial style one ) also we have the prepayment - modern day one well it was fitted in 1990.

sorry we are now in red for £4.40 debit.

so we have used £117.05 of electric in 7 weeks and 5 days. to me it makes no sense and it just does not tally up.

any advice. ive contacted energy watch and they say we should not have two meters.

when they come and read our meter powergen never get them, they read the meter from the prepayment meter. because they never got our meter readings i had to start reading them from the old style one next to it.

im really confused and im really stuck. i want to change suppliers but im gonna try and see what energy watch can do first.

see you from kerry.

also have any of you lot had problems with powergen pre-payment meters ?

Do you know what type of meter it is ie Smart, Key or Token? I'm a bit confused to how you can have two meters. Are you sure there both for your electric and both have separate readings?

Also were either of the readings estimated? I would have thought that as you have a pre-payment meter when you get a new bill your balance should be about zero.

I would also advise you to take the settings off your meter and give Powergen a call to make sure they are correct. If your settings are lower than they should be it could mean in the future you end up owing money.

no the meter reading of 00223 is the next meter reading from the 98972 meter reading its just gone over into zero figures we have used 1261 units. if you add on 1261 its a meter reading of 100233 but there its not a 6 digit meter. so it just rolls over again to zero 00223. powergen have said in the past that its alright to read the meter from the old electric meter, we have been doing it for a few years now. our tarif is supposed to be normal and the rate is well was on our last electric bill was 8.890 cost per kwh(p) . excluding additional charges.

we are on pre - payment card/token meter, little blue cards with black strip on the back.

all it is im not sure whether this old meter is giving out correct meter readings or if this old style meter is slow/fast or just wrong. its just that we have used £117.05 worth of electric and we still have all that money still left in the meter we put in £30.00 a fortnight thats £60.00 a month. when we put in this fortnights money in the meter we already had £11.00 electric left over so we had £41.00 of electric in there its now wednesday and we have £32.98 in there thats just 5 days. its as if the old electric meters fast and the pre - payment meters either correct or to slow. im just a little or a lot confused.

    see you from kerry.

Just out of interest but why did you go to energywatch? Have you already spoken to powergen about the 2 meters if so what did they advise you. Could be possible that one of them is a check meter to make sure your pre-payment meter is not running to slow or to quick. Can't see the reasons behind going to energywatch though?

I'm still really confused as to how you can have 2 meters. are 2 different meters appearing on your bills or just 1?

is there any way you could take pictures of your meters? i'm really intrigued.

you say on your latest bill your unit rate is 8.890 cost per kwh(p). Is this the same as on your meter?

i think it says 0.0674 tariff

i clicked on the buttons on the black pre - payment box ,

    0.0674
    0.0071
    emergency credit - £5.00

normal credit ( whats in meter now - £32.10)

ive just telephoned powergen they have already heard from energy watch, the man said that there should not be two meters, and they sound a bit worried. they said they should all be on same taiffs im not so sure - is this 0.0674 the tarrif on the meter pre - payment meter.

the old style meter was intalled in 1990 they removed an old one then put this one in. im not sure when the pre - payment meter was fitted. the meters were fitted before we bought and moved into this house we moved in this house in 1997.

also the people that owned this house before us had to pay an extra £2.50 on top of there electric.

im really stuck now. powergen said they are going to try and solve it all.

    see you from kerry.

also does anyone know how to read and understand these pre - payment meters ?

Once Energywatch get involved - you should see some action. I would write down what Powergen say to you so you can keep track. I had a load of hassle with British Gas at my old property - compounded by the fact they didn't call back and I never got to speak to the same person - once I got Energyatch involved the sorted it quick smart.

there getting someone out on the 28th july to see both meters , yes both meters are next to each other.

they sound a bit concerned because im not sure how they had us down. i think they thought we had a pre - payment just paying installements , i then explained to the lady that it was a token meter we put token blue cards into and we purchase these from the local post office and shop.

because they have it down as a true reading or something , something like a normal meter reading.

she said that house's buildings with two meters in are usually flats so the land lord can keep an eye on the tenents or something.

she said that the other meter really needs taking out.

also ive contacted ebico today to go over to them. powergen will found out about that soon as well.

    see you from kerry.

if I were you i would have waited until everything had been sorted out before switching suppliers. if some of your meter details are wrong it could cause problems with the transfer and possibly major problems further down the line.
