I am looking to buy a new laptop, and have been looking at the Dell inspiron 17 (N0075002).
I have roughly £400 to spend, although for this one I would pay extra £29 to have a coloured casing.
I need to have a 17" screen or bigger, and I will be using it for general browsing, music and photo storage, uni work, possibly waych tv and movies on it too.
I am stuck - I don't know what I am looking for and would appriciate some help
If I order today, it looks like I will get some stuff discounted:

Get Free Shipping Valid Until 10/02/2010158437
Special Offer - Expires: 10 February 2010
Save £129 (Inc Vat) until 10/02/2010158413
Special Offer - Expires: 10 February 2010
Includes Antivirus Upgrade Valid until 10/02/2010156461
Special Offer - Expires: 10 February 2010
Get Free Memory Upgrade to 3GB until 10/02/2010158427
Special Offer - Expires: 10 February 2010
Can anyone in the know let me know if this is a good deal, or are there any other laptops I should be buying

Is this good? X0 -
It's a good price. Just one thing that I noticed - it only offers b and g networking. Do you have a wireless network? If you do, it is probably worth getting a wireless card that also supports n networking (this is much faster and more reliable). Even if your current router doesn't support it, you might get one in future that does and it doesn't cost much to upgrade the computer at time of purchase.
This computer won't play any modern games, but it sounds like you don't want it for that.
When ordering from Dell, remember to go through www.topcashback.co.uk for an extra 3% discount.0 -
That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Hi tentonine
I dont know what b and g networking means! No, I don't have wireless network, but am I right in thinking that I just buy a router and set it up? Am planning on going through quidco for 5% cashback.
Where do I get n netwrok card from?
Apart from that is it a good deal, because I am looking to buy today if so with the special offers included.
Thanks for replying by the way

Listed in the specification is:
Dell Wireless 1397 Mini Card (802.11 b/g)
802.11 b,g, and n are different wireless standards. b and g are old, but very common. n is much newer and less common at the moment, but it is much better (in range and speed). A card that supports n will also support b and g, so it is worth getting an n card (as I think it only costs around £15 extra).
It is an option that you can choose on the Dell website when you configure the computer.
It is otherwise a good deal and there is no need to upgrade the wireless card if you're not likely to need a wireless network.0 -
tentonine thanks for your help so far

Ok, so I have gone back to the options for wireless conectivity, there is the Dell Wireless 1515 Half Mini Card (802.11n)for £15, or there is the Intel WiFi Link 5100 (802.11 a/b/g/n 1X2) 1/2 MiniCard for £20.
Which would you recommend?
Sorry to be a pain in the bum

I can recommend the Toshiiba L450D from Dixons website. It's linked from the home page. £350 gets you a very fast PC, a good processor, enough RAM and a good graphics chipset. My daughter just bought one and is very pleased. Toshiba is also a more reliable make than Dell..0
