Npower prepayment meter (EM credit charges)
I wonder if someone could explain to me how the charges work on a prepayment meter?
We have the new key meters and have a 3 monthly statement sent to us according to the statement we have used £27 standing charges for going into emergency credit.
Well this is what I am assuming as it lists all the times I have bought electric and topped up the meter.
I'm confused how the standing charges work I know if I use £3 of the emergency they take the £3 back and that there is an extra charge for going into emergency but can anyone explain how much extra this charge is as dont understand how I have run up £27 of debt over 3 months

nPower don't charge you standing charges "for going into emergency credit" ... but there may be daily standing charges attributable to the tariff you are on.
There is no extra charge for going into emergeny credit."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
N power use "Gas Sculpting" charging higher gas units in winter. They are also one of the more devious suppliers currently being investigated for overcharging customers in 2007. Need I say more??0

Perhaps someone should investigate why it is taking so long to complete the investigation?
I think I remember Ofgem saying about a year ago that nPower should compensate some of their customers (about 200,000 I think) that had been overcharged.
Yes compensation! nPower were ordered to pay it out! ... But I don't think many people splashed on on the champers then, not unless it was an extremely small bottle. The compensation amounted to a whopping £6."Now to trolling as a concept. .... There is no Sculpting on electric.
There is a daily sanding charge and a one tier unit rate on pp electric meters.0 -
Looking at my meter there is a charge of 14p daily but I assume that is taken from the electric in the meter and not charged seperate?
Not sure if anyone would be able to give an explantion as to why there is an extra charge?0 -
Could it be possible that the meter does not recover the standing charge if you go into Emergency credit therefore building a debt. I think you need to check out the reason with Npower.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

When meters come out of emergency credit they then catch up on any other charges0
