Paypal Credit Card

  • I took an Amex card in February last year and used it for 5 months and rattled up over £114 in Cashback . After the 5% cashback in the first 3 months the rate is fairly standard. The cashback will not be credited until my bill next month. Amex also give up to 56 days free credit however I eventually quit using it is as I got so frustrated by the small number of places that do not accept it. It is so much easier doing all your spending on one card and that is what I will do with the Paypal Mastercard.

Amex only has an effective rate of 3.5% if you spend £3000 and no more. The more you spend on it the lower your effective cashback rate is going to be.

I am sure many people do as I have done and use an Amex card for several months and then stop. However when you receive the cashback on its first anniversary you have to make some further purchases to clear the cashback on your account.

You don't HAVE to do this (although it may be convenient).
Last time I asked them to xfer the money to my bank account.
I sent them my account details by secure message and they did a reasonably quick BACS transfer.
Of course you may find it easier just to spend it, but you don't HAVE to.

This is one of the big advantages of cashback as opposed to rewards.
It really is cash that is universally accepted everywhere.
  • Thanks Lisyloo, I will be contacting AMEX today to ask them to transfer the money via Bacs.

I now have my Paypal Mastercard, it has come with a small 3K Credit Limit which they will not increase immediately which is a pain. Most of my other cards have a 10-15K limit and I always pay off the full balance each month.

    Other negatives are as follow:

You are not able to change the date on which your bill is generated. :(

The reward vouchers that are issued must be used within 6 months or they will expire.

Their premium rate 0871 5225155 Tel. No. can be avoided by using the alternative of 0208 1810000. :) Press the Star when aksed for your Card Number and after 3 times you will get to the next option menu. I have updated this information on the Saynoto0870 Website.

The bank behind the the Paypal Card is Santander and their call centre appears to be in India or that region. I did have some difficulty understanding the strong accent of the woman I spoke to.

I will probably use the card at least once on the High St to get my £20 first usage voucher and also use it as the card that is linked to my Paypal Account so as to get 2% back on purchases but doubt that I will use it beyond this so the small 3K credit limit is not going to be an issue.

I think a PayPal debit card is also available for US customers, is it available in UK as well?

  • Just a quick heads up for anyone who gets one of these, when filling in the Direct Debit mandate form your "account number" isn't the same thing as your credit card number although both are 16 digit numbers.

I'd already filled in the paper mandate form and only spotted the difference when I tried to log into the online servicing with my card number thinking it was the same as the account number.

It would be very easy to think you'd completed the DD mandate then get stung for late payment fees when the DD bounces.

Does anyone know if you can apply for this PayPal credit card if you already have a Santander credit card?

    To answer my own question...
I phoned up twice, both were thick Asian accents.
    1. Can have 2 cards.
    2. Can have as many as you like, subject to a successful credit search
I've now successfully applied for the Paypal card, and will come within 10 working days.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the £20 voucher to appear? Or if there's a minimum spend to get this?

I've had the card for a year and no £20. Has anyone managed to get their £20? I have been fobbed off whenever I've inquired.

I did get mine, although it was a bit crap as it was 2 £10 vouchers that don't include postage on eBay and I had to ring them to get one to work as it couldn't cope with me buying 2 items in 1 transaction. I think I got the vouchers about 4-6 weeks after taking out the card.
