Fed up With Price of Hairdressers

I have a colour and bleach with my cut and blow dry and it costs up to £70. I try to leave it as long as possible between visits but Im really fed up with paying that much. I tried a mobile that someone recommended to me but I wasn't that keen. Plus you feel as though you have to clean and tidy your house before they come. I love sitting at the hairdressers and being given magazines and a cuppa.
Perhaps I should grow my own, darker colour through to make it cheaper? What do other people do?

I haven't been to the hairdressers for about 6 months for this very reason, it is just too expensive-I was £37 the last time for a cut and blow dry!
I have thought about trying the local college but have been told that there is a long waiting list and as I work and have a 2yo I am limited for when i can go (also I have been told you could be sitting there for hours!) I think I am going to try another hairdresser which is not in town, my Mum went and she was a lot cheaper so will give this one a go I think."That's no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad."0 -
i pay £45 for a cut and colour (takes about 2hrs - i have long hair). i have tried a few salons and expected to pay £80+ as it is a posh one. when the girl said £45 i have never looked back. i do leave it 8-10 weeks mind you. my sis goes to a really cheap salon and pays £75 for exactly the same thing. It really is just a case of trying different ones, and personal recommendations. A lot of salons have trainees and offer cut price services on a weekday evening. They seem to be heavily supervised too. I would ask around. Good luck!!0

Don't colour your hair. In most salons I've used, the colour is the most expensive part.4.30: conduct pigeon orchestra...0

Eeeeek!!!! I'm glad I don't dye my hair, those are shocking prices!!! OP, good idea to try growing it out - also, dark home dyes usually seem to give a great shine (my friends use them quite a lot to enhance their colour rather than change it). If I had dark hair I would consider trying these (don't think the blonde ones would have the same conditioning effect somehow).Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

My lovely hairdresser comes to me. No parking to pay, I certainly don't do any extra tidying. Last week she did me (including colour) and trimmed my two kids for £250

Sticking with your own colour and enhancing it with semis at home would obviously save you some money!
I used to have a short style, which needed cutting every 5 weeks to keep it in good shape. I've saved a lot on cuts since I started growing my hair last March . Have had 1 trim in the last 12 months instead. They do a free fringe trim when I need it though!
I've been going regularly to this salon for about 5 years now, this is the longest I've ever stuck with one place, I really like them and I get excellent service so I bite the bullet and pay the price. I get my regrowth done and STRETCH it to every 4 weeks. I can't manage to just do the roots at home myself and because my hair is dark and now longer, having it done at the salon avoids the build-up of block colour that would occur, if I was whacking box after box of colour all over.
At the end of the day, it boils down to what you can afford a and how you choose to spend your money though! for me it's worth it, but then I don't spend as much money on other things as some might! It's my treat and wind-down time too!0 -
I get mine done as a model when I can, alot of salons seem to have ads in their windows at the moment so its worth asking about it.
Costs me anywhere from free to £15 for a root tint and full colour, even had lightening, highlights and sectioned colour added to that.
In the inbetween times (I'm not always free to get my hair done) I get my mum to colour my hair from the bottle, L'Oreal Feria or Expertise are good. Slightly patchy results but my hair is wavy so its not such a big deal.0 -
I get a full head of highlights so I share your pain! The salon I was going to was charging £80 so after searching around I've managed to get another salon for £55 for a full head of highlights. I'm actually considering getting my next lot of highlights done at the local college, the only thing is the length of time it takes to get it done at the college as they're slower because they're learning.
Hairdressers in a local residential area tend to be cheaper than ones on a high street or in a city centre as well, I've found that out.0 -
Where I live there is two hairdressers and a barbers. The hairdressers are both really gossipy places and I hate them, however the girl who owns and works alone in the barbers used to work in a hairdressers and does female hair as well as men. She does ask if you are wanting a colour or perm to give her a weeks notice as she doesn't keep a huge stock of products..but she is half the price of anywhere else.
I colour my own hair but get it cut there. In a hairdressers I was charged £40 for a cut inlcuding a wash and blow dry. She charges me £12.00. Now you may have to wait as in between she will do quick men's cuts, but it suits me.
Check out barbers near you and see what they offer.;)I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY;)0 -
I go to the college in Birmingham city centre and have been going there for the last 6 years, It is done by the students under the close supervision of the tutors. A cut and blow dry costs £6. I have had a semi permanent colour and including the cut and blow dry that was £11. All the treatments I have had have been as good as I have ever had in salons in the past. In fact I would say the cuts have been better. I am trying another college next week at Solihull because that is closer to where I live the prices are the same.0
