Sky broadband connection speed

Hi guys

I have Sky Broadband max/unlimited and it is up to 20mb. However, when I log into my router it states that the downstream connection speed is just 4096kbs - and hence my connection is only around 3.5mb. If this is set to just 4096kbs then is my connection being capped?

If I am promised up to 20mb then setting it to just 4mb seems a bit cheeky?

Here are the stats:

ADSL LinkDownstreamUpstreamConnection Speed4096 kbps512 kbpsLine Attenuation34.0 db19.5 dbNoise Margin17.8 db13.0 db

Any advice? Thanks in advance.
The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing:)

It sounds like you're simply a long way from the exchange. It doesn't matter if you're on an 'up to' 8meg, 12meg, 20meg or 40meg service if your limit is 4meg. This is simply down to the laws of physics and can't be changed.

    The stats suggest otherwise!

tbh its all down to line length quailty of the line and noise etc on the line.
have you tried just unplugging and extension lines so you connect directly into your bt master socket and nothing else connected, then check you router stats if you see a huge increase then its your internal telephone wiring and a rewire is called for!
i am stating the obvious here but you have got filters on all your phones and sky boxes as well if not this will be causing you issues! if you do see a huge jump in speed you can connect back one phone at a time to see if you have a dodgy line or filter. there alot of varibles in internal system such as this and obviously the less extension lines in a house the less the overall line length there for you will see and increase in speed. if you do end up needing to rewire inside the house may i suggest cat5e cable to do this i ended up have to buy 100m reel for inside my house as was cheapest way to do this cost me £30 from rs. got my speed up by about 5mb now running at 16mb on a 20mb package but that will be best speed i can now physcially get. on a router connection actual thruput differs though and is slightly lower than router stats 14mb in my case.
anyway hope it hasn't bored you.
one other thing to be aware of is dect phones can severely hinder your broadband as well.

may i suggest if none of the above works you have a word on here but you will need to join first to post

Would be useful to know what the OP has done since last August when they raised the issue before.
